Q) What is your business’s name?
Q) Can you provide a description of your business?
A) We provide outstanding marketing opportunities for businesses when they participate in our signature events like Pet Fest , Missoula Women’s Fair, Missoula Health and Wellness Fair and Beast Your Biz. We also work with business clients to implement their own successful and innovative events, as well as wedding couples to assist with day of wedding coordination.
Q) What is your role with the company?
A) I am the founder and co-owner.
Q) What is unique about your business?
A) We come from a marketing background so we approach all of our projects from a marketing perspective, which adds more success for our clients.
Q) How did you get started in this business?
A) I began Marketplace Media in 2006 after leaving my position of Station Manager for ABC/FOX TV in Missoula, Kalispell, Butte and Bozeman. My daughter, Megan, joined me shortly after graduating college and we have grown into the business we are today.
Q) What is your background?
A) I have worked as a newspaper publisher, TV station and radio General Manager since 1979. I have learned every aspect of media management from the ground up including writing, graphic design and web design.
Q) How long have you been a part of MBN?
A) I first joined in 1993 but when I started traveling for business it was difficult to be active and attend meetings consistently. For the past 15 years, I have been highly involved in MBN, participating in symposium as a vendor and speaker and on the board.
Q) What is your favorite part of MBN?
A) I really love the many great friendships I have made and constantly making new friends.
Q) What are you involved in outside of work?
A) I spend time with my family. Love being a mom and grandma! We spend time in the summer at our family cabin in Seeley Lake and I travel to Mazatlán, Mexico in the winter. I enjoy working in my yard and doing home projects. I have a dog and two cats that entertain and keep me company.
Q) Have you received any awards or certificates?
A) I received the Businesswoman of the Year and Flying High awards from MBN, the President’s Award from Lee Enterprises along with certificates of appreciation from non-profits for volunteer work.
Q) What is the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
A) In business, don’t think of sales as “selling”, think of it as “helping”. In my personal life, it would be that we all have the ability to make a difference in the world so live a purposeful life.
Q) What is the one thing you wish you’d known before you started your journey to your current position?
A) Insecurity, fear and loneliness can be overwhelming when starting a new venture. It’s OK. Everyone has them, don’t let the feelings become paralyzing.
Q) What “failure” of yours taught you the best lesson? What was that lesson?
A) I have failed so many times! But if you’re not making mistakes, you’re not pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.
Q) If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?
A) Have tons of patience. Long lived success never happens overnight.
